Switzerland’s biggest health insurers are joining forces to found a new trade association, which will start work at the beginning of 2025. This new association is intended to end the duality of the two umbrella organisations and thus strengthen the representation of interests in the health insurance industry. The stakeholders will present a unified front in the future.

The Swiss health insurance industry has today taken an important step towards a single, joint trade association. Health insurers Assura, Atupri, Concordia, CSS, EGK, Groupe Mutuel, Helsana, KPT, ÖKK, Sanitas, SWICA, Sympany and Visana have agreed to found a new health insurance association, which will start work at the beginning of 2025. Their memberships in the santésuisse or curafutura associations will be terminated.
The purpose of the new association is to unite the health insurance industry and create a balanced and broad foundation for their interests. The health insurers plan to use this new trade association to work together to promote a sustainable, financially viable, high-quality and patient-centred healthcare system and to encourage constructive dialogue. The unified stance will increase their political clout and boost the industry’s credibility and jointly represent the interests of premium payers. It also offers exciting prospects for employees of the two current associations.
The founding members already represent over 90% of basic insurance policyholders in Switzerland. Other health insurers are welcome to join the new organisation. This is a strong sign of progress and a willingness to work in partnership within the industry.
