Guests from abroad: insurance cover for your visit

An emergency is all it takes to make a visit unpleasant for your guests from abroad. All the more so if they are not adequately insured for their visit to Switzerland from another country. Unfortunately, emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere. If guests with an official place of residence abroad need emergency medical treatment in Switzerland, this can be very costly for them.

With health insurance for guests from abroad – referred to as incoming insurance – you can provide your visitors with comprehensive protection against illness and accident, meaning your guests can look forward to a carefree stay in Switzerland.

Incoming insurance is required by law if you are expecting a visit from non-EU citizens. After all, they generally require a Schengen visa for entry into Switzerland. In order to be able to apply for this Schengen visa in the first place, guests resident outside of the EU must be able to produce foreign insurance with minimum cover of EUR 30,000 or a guest insurance policy.

Do my guests need a visa for entry into Switzerland?

Visitors officially resident outside of the EU generally need a Schengen visa. Depending on their citizenship, this is the case from the first day of their visit or once their stay exceeds 90 days.
