Our support services for your hospital stay

Whether you have a planned stay in hospital or have to go into hospital because of an emergency: any help is welcome in these kinds of situations. We support you and provide you with relief with our HOSPITAL Semi-Private and HOSPITAL Private hospital insurance. An overview.

A stay in hospital can disrupt your day-to-day life and present you with various challenges. Who will take care of your child, for example? And then: how will you manage your household when you need rest and relief yourself? While basic insurance covers care services, you have to pay for childcare or household help yourself. With our HOSPITAL supplementary insurance, we offer support services and financial relief. So you can rest and recover after your stay in hospital.

Personal hospital support

Are you facing inpatient hospital treatment? In thorough consultations, our advisors will be happy to help you with any questions you may have before, during and after your hospital stay.

During your stay:

We provide a personal contact person to support you throughout your entire hospital stay.

  • How should I prepare for the discharge process?
  • How do I organise transport home?
  • What treatments and appointments will there be after the hospital stay (e.g. convalescent therapy, rehabilitation, etc.)?
  • Whom can I contact if I have medical questions about my further treatment?

During your recovery:

We support you during your recovery at home.

  • Who will support me with household chores or childcare?
  • How can I manage my everyday life as easily as possible?
  • How can I take an active part in my own recovery?

Household help

Get home as soon as possible: many patients want to return to familiar surroundings as quickly as possible. But what does this mean for your day-to-day life? You won’t yet be able to do your usual household tasks or you’ll only be able to do them to a limited extent, depending on your physical condition. While a home nursing organisation or nursing staff support you with your care, household help takes the pressure off you when it comes to cooking, washing and cleaning.

If you need help after your hospital stay, the following requirements must be met for your hospital insurance to support you with contributions to household help:

  • You have taken out HOSPITAL supplementary hospital insurance.
  • Your doctor has issued a prescription for you and has confirmed the need for household help.
  • Your acute inpatient hospital stay can be prevented or at least reduced by medically prescribed household help.

If you meet the requirements, your hospital insurance will cover the following costs for household help:

  • HOSPITAL ECO: up to CHF 30 per day for a maximum of 30 days per calendar year
  • HOSPITAL FLEX: up to CHF 50 per day for a maximum of 30 days per calendar year. Only applicable if: you have also taken out the FLEX supplementary module.
  • HOSPITAL Semi-Private: up to CHF 100 per day for a maximum of 30 days per calendar year
  • HOSPITAL Private: up to CHF 200 per day for a maximum of 30 days per calendar year

A household help provider is anyone who looks after the household for you as an independent professional help provider or for an organisation. Someone you know can also help you with your household. We simply need confirmation from their employer that this person will be unable to work as much as a result of this and will thereby suffer loss of income.

Household help supports you when it comes to coping with day-to-day life. It relieves you of tasks that you cannot do for health reasons. The services include housekeeping duties and day-to-day tasks such as:

  • Hoovering, dusting, mopping floors, cleaning surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom
  • Disposing of waste
  • Preparing and cooking meals, setting the table, washing dishes
  • Washing, ironing, changing bedding
  • Shopping for groceries
  • Caring for indoor plants and balcony plants
  • Checking the post, etc.

Good to know

The cost of household help is only covered by hospital insurance. Basic insurance does not cover any costs for such help.

Nanny service (childcare service)

It is not always easy for parents to arrange childcare. Even less so in an emergency. You want to know that your children are safe and well so that you can focus on yourself and your recovery in hospital. A quick and reliable solution is needed. That’s why supplementary hospital insurance is helpful.

If you need help, the following requirements must be met for your hospital insurance to support you with the nanny service:

  • As the parent in hospital, you have taken out HOSPITAL supplementary hospital insurance.
  • The children to be looked after are no older than 15 years of age.
  • Our Emergency Call Centre will arrange childcare. You can reach us 24/7 on 058 340 16 11.
  • The childcare service is provided in Switzerland. Nanny services are not available abroad.

While you are in hospital, an experienced caregiver will look after your children. This will allow you to rest and recover in hospital while your children are looked after at home in their familiar environment.

If all of the requirements are met, hospital insurance will cover the following benefits:

  • HOSPITAL ECO: you receive up to 30 hours of nanny services per calendar year
  • HOSPITAL FLEX: you receive up to 30 hours of nanny services per calendar year. Only applicable if: you have also taken out the FLEX supplementary module.
  • HOSPITAL Semi-Private: you receive up to 60 hours of nanny services per calendar year
  • HOSPITAL Private: you receive up to 120 hours of nanny services per calendar year

While you are recovering in hospital, the caregiver takes on the following tasks:

  • Preparing meals
  • Structuring the day with various activities
  • Depending on age and needs: accompanying children to daycare, kindergarten, school or leisure activities

Good to know

Basic insurance does not cover any costs. Without supplementary hospital insurance, patients have to finance the childcare service themselves.

KidsCare (childcare)

It’s not just you as a mother or father who might fall ill or have an accident – it can happen to your child too. If your child has supplementary hospital insurance, this will support you when it comes to looking after your ill or injured child. So you won’t feel any additional pressure in this difficult situation.

If you need help, the following requirements must be met for your hospital insurance to support you with childcare:

  • Both parents are employed or you are a single working parent.
  • You have taken out HOSPITAL ECO, Semi-Private or Private supplementary hospital insurance for your ill or injured child.
  • The child to be looked after is no older than 15 years of age.
  • Our Emergency Call Centre will arrange childcare. You can reach the switchboard 24/7 on 058 340 16 11.
  • The childcare is provided in Switzerland. KidsCare services are not available abroad.

We will arrange for a carer with professional training to care for your child in their familiar environment. So they will be in good hands and you will be able to go to work without having to worry. If all of the requirements are met, the following benefits will be covered by hospital insurance if your child has an accident or falls ill:

  • HOSPITAL ECO: up to max. 30 hours per calendar year
  • HOSPITAL Semi-Private: up to 60 hours per calendar year
  • HOSPITAL Private: up to 120 hours per calendar year

It is not always possible for you to look after your child yourself around the clock if they have been in an accident or are ill. KidsCare supports you at home with the following benefits:

  • Child’s personal hygiene
  • Administering medication
  • Preparing meals
  • Structuring the day with games, reading and activities the child is able to do

Depending on the situation, your child’s care may be prescribed by a doctor. In this case, basic insurance will cover the costs and not supplementary insurance.

Good to know

Apart from care services, basic insurance does not cover any childcare costs. If there is no supplementary hospital insurance, you will have to finance this yourself.
