If you want to cancel your basic or supplementary insurance, there are a few things to bear in mind. Here you can find all the key information, from the correct procedure to the right time to cancel.
Whether you’re switching to another insurer, cancelling because of a death or moving abroad: in Switzerland, you can cancel your basic and supplementary insurance with a health insurance company. Your new health insurer will normally help you with the cancellation process. There are some differences in the cancellation process to bear in mind, depending on the type of insurance.
Special case: Cancellation for policyholders who have taken out our BASIS basic model, with a deductible of CHF 300 (no deductible for children): basic insurance may be cancelled as of 30 June. The notice period is 3 months. Notice of cancellation must reach us by no later than the last working day in March.

Yes, basic insurance can be cancelled before you have signed a new health insurance contract. If we do not receive confirmation of subsequent insurance from your new health insurer, we will be obliged to continue your insurance contract.
Yes. What’s important is that your notice of cancellation clearly states which insurance products you are cancelling.
No. You cannot switch if there are any outstanding premiums or co-payments (deductible & excess) from your basic insurance. This is prescribed by the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG).
