The expectant mother’s insurance cover takes on extra importance during pregnancy. Here you can find all the insured benefits available during pregnancy and maternity.
Basic insurance
Pregnancy check-ups: seven check-ups and two ultrasound examinations by a doctor or seven check-ups by a midwife
Pregnancy-related health problems: medications on the Federal Office of Public Health’s specialities list
Birth preparation: antenatal classes as well as basic care and treatments by Spitex
Childbirth: costs for the birth in a hospital/birthing centre
Immediate postnatal period: support from a midwife or carer for up to eight weeks after the birth
Breastfeeding guidance: Three consultations with a midwife or trained breastfeeding specialist. This benefit replaces the former breastfeeding allowance.
Breast pump: With a medical prescription, co-payment of up to CHF 340 for purchase of an electronic double breast pump, including accessory set, or up to CHF 175 for purchase of an electronic single breast pump, including accessory set; manual version up to CHF 47
Follow-up checks by a doctor and laboratory tests where necessary
Birth preparation: 75% of the costs, up to CHF 500 per calendar year
Pregnancy check-ups: 75% of the costs for check-ups and ultrasound examinations that exceed the cover provided by basic insurance (up to CHF 500 per calendar year)
Birth preparation: 75% of the costs, up to CHF 500 per calendar year
Pregnancy check-ups: 90% of the costs for check-ups and ultrasound examinations that exceed the cover provided by basic insurance (up to CHF 750 per calendar year)
Outpatient birth: 90% of the costs of a birthing pool, up to CHF 1,500 per calendar year.
Doctor: free choice of doctor at recognised institutions
Outpatient birth: various comfort benefits such as a separate recovery zone, snacks and drinks for the patient and accompanying person or a taxi ride home
