The cost of medical emergencies abroad can be very high – sometimes much higher than in Switzerland. For example, if you become ill or have an accident in a country with high medical costs, such as the US, Japan, Canada or Australia, the costs covered by your basic insurance will be nowhere near enough. And if you need to return to Switzerland for medical treatment – for example in an ambulance jet – this may result in high costs that are not covered by basic insurance.
No, with TOP supplementary healthcare insurance, you are sufficiently insured against medical emergencies while travelling abroad. The same is true for both COMPLETA and OMNIA supplementary healthcare insurance.
WORLD travel insurance is particularly useful for those who would like better cover while travelling abroad and do not have supplementary healthcare insurance.
No, a health declaration is not required to take out WORLD because pre-existing conditions are generally not covered. This means that you cannot make any claims for the cost of treatment for medical conditions or accidents which had already arisen or were known to you before the commencement of the insurance cover or the date on which you booked your travel.
No. WORLD travel insurance primarily covers events connected with medical emergencies abroad.
However, WORLD does cover the costs of family members visiting you if you are hospitalised abroad for an extended period of time. And if you are unable to make your return flight because you are hospitalised, WORLD will also reimburse you for the cost of rebooking it. You will also receive a contribution towards the additional costs incurred if you must return home from your trip early for certain reasons, for example if a member of your family becomes seriously ill, is injured or dies.
You can take out this insurance if you meet the following conditions:
The minimum term is one year. The contract is automatically renewed each year on the expiry date for a further year.
You can cancel the insurance with effect from 31 December of each year and switch to another health insurance company in Switzerland. Three months' notice of cancellation must be given. Notice of cancellation must reach us by no later than the last working day in September. If the insurance premium changes, a one-month notice period applies. In this case, notice of cancellation must reach us by no later than the last working day in November.
A waiting period is the time (from the start of the contract) during which you do not yet have a claim to insurance benefits. The length of the waiting period can vary depending on the insurance benefit.
For maternity benefits, there is a waiting period of 365 days. That means you cannot claim these benefits before the end of the first insurance year.
