International health insurance: travel with confidence

Emergencies can happen out of the blue. Accidents or illnesses are particularly unpleasant when you’re far from home – and they can also be expensive. So it’s worth getting insurance cover for abroad. Here are our tips on travel health insurance.

Do I need international health insurance?

Anyone who is planning to go on holiday or spend an extended period of time abroad should check their current insurance cover abroad first. Statutory basic and accident insurance does not provide enough cover in many situations. The costs of rescue operations and repatriation to Switzerland, for example, are not covered by basic insurance. For this reason alone, it’s worth taking out supplementary insurance with cover abroad, or international health insurance.

What travel health insurance plans are available?

Helsana offers a number of different supplementary insurance plans to provide cover when you're travelling or spending longer periods of time abroad. Either with WORLD travel health insurance exclusively for abroad, or with conventional supplementary insurance that also includes benefits abroad, such as TOP or COMPLETA.
